Our Team

The Experience Collaborative is a small team of Master’s and Doctoral level university faculty/educators, mental health supervisors, and experiential education practitioners who have common threads in leadership development, organizational change, and outdoor adventure programming at the field staff and administrative levels.

Bob Stremba

Bob Stremba, M.S. Ed., Ed.D.

Co-founder and Executive Director
  • Developed, directed, and taught undergraduate degree programs in adventure education for 18 years as a tenured professor at Fort Lewis College (Durango, CO), and Plymouth (NH) State University, and as a Visiting Professor for two years at New Mexico Highlands University.
  • Developed and implemented new student outdoor orientation programs at the University of Puget Sound and New Mexico Highlands University.
  • Served as course director, lead instructor, and instructor for Outward Bound.
  • Served as Director of Counseling at the University of Puget Sound for 17 years.
  • Spends time with lots of different outdoor adventure programs by conducting accreditation reviews (nearly 50 so far) for the Association for Experiential Education (AEE) adventure and therapeutic organizations internationally.
  • Actively connects theory with informed practices (and vice versa) of risk management; staff hiring, training, and supervision; curricula; and technical activity protocols.
  • Co-authored the book, Teaching Adventure Education Theory: Best Practices.
  • Is passionate about mentoring students and program staff in how to be their best selves.

Jay Zarr, M.S.Ed.

Co-founder and Director
  • Walks his talk, having experienced that launching a new project at work or school is a lot like climbing a mountain or kayaking in rough waters. There is no question it’s hard work, yet faith in your own abilities and a high level of trust among team members are also critical to success.
  • Is co-owner, with his wife Cleo, of Imagine If Colorado, where they lead civilized adventures to exotic places.
  • Is an adjunct professor at CSU-Pueblo and Pueblo Community College, has served as Associate Professor of Outdoor Education at Colorado Mountain College, and Coordinator of Wilderness Management for the United States Forest Service.
  • Has been an Instructor for the Wilderness Education Association and is a consultant for High Impact Training for 20 years.
  • Originally established the Wilderness Pursuits program at Western State University and the Experiential Education Program at CSU-Pueblo and two High School programs for At-Risk Students.
  • Jay’s other experiences include being the Board President and Interim CEO for the Nature and Raptor Center of Pueblo and leadership positions for the Association of Experiential Education.
Andrea Parrish, The Experience Collaborative

Andrea Parrish, MA, LMHC, CMHS.

Co-founder and Director
  • Loves working with individuals and organizations to guide life-style and system level changes to support the health and wellness of individuals, organizations and communities.
  • Has over 37 years in experiential learning, mental health, adventure programing, training, and large-scale system change.
  • Trained outdoor leaders to support therapeutic and educational outcomes in outdoor programs from Tall Ships and inner-city boat building to ropes courses wilderness programs.
  • Project Director for a state wide Children’s Mental Health system change initiative she established statewide stakeholder collaborations around shared goals and outcomes for Children’s Mental Health. Built partnerships to address complex community, and organizational challenges
  • Director of Children and Family Services at a Community Mental Health Center implemented and lead evidence based programs to serve children youth and families.
  • Is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, a Child Mental Health Specialist in Washington State. Currently enrolled in a wellness coaching program to become a certified wellness coach, with a focus on nature-based wellness.
